Friday, April 29 marks day 4 of the hunger strike. The organizers are urging all allies and supporters to come out to California Hall at noon for a rally calling on the administration to meet all 4 of their demands:
- Reinstatement of the FTE staff positions in Ethnic Studies, Gender and Women’s Studies, and African American Studies cut by organizational simplification under Operational Excellence
- End the current process of Operational Excellence
- Publicly support the Legislative Resolution ACR 34, co-authored by Assembly members Ricardo Lara and Luis A. Alejon in support of Ethnic Studies in California
- Publicly acknowledge the unfulfilled promise of the creation of a Third World College at UC Berkeley
Thus far the administration has caved to demands 3 and 4, but the hunger strikers are refusing to concede until the first demand is met. No layoffs in Ethnic Studies, Gender and Women’s Studies, or African American Studies!
All out to the noon rally!
